ขนาดต้นสูงประมาณ : cm
แวนด้าเป็นกล้วยไม้ประเภทโมโนโพเดี้ยล ไม่แตกกอ เจริญเติบโตไปทางยอด รากเป็นรากอากาศ ใบมีลักษณะกลม แบนหรือร่อง ใบซ้อนสลับกัน ช่อดอกจะออกด้านข้างของลำต้นสลับกับใบ ช่อดอกยาวและแข็ง กลีบนอกและกลีบในมีรูปร่างคล้ายคลึงกัน โคนกลีบแคบ และไปรวมกันที่โคนเส้าเกสร กลีบดอกในล่างด้านใต้มีเดือยแหลมยื่นออกมาเป็นส่วนท้ายของปากกระเป๋า ปากกระเป๋าของแวนด้าเป็นแบบธรรมดาแบนเป็นแผ่นหนาแข็ง และพุ่งออกด้านหน้า รูปลักษณะคล้ายช้อน หูกระเป๋าทั้งสองข้างแข็งและตั้งขึ้น สีดอกมีมากมายแตกต่างกันตามแต่ละชนิด
กล้วยไม้สกุลแวนด้าพบในป่าตามธรรมชาติประมาณ 40 ชนิด มีกระจายพันธุ์อยู่ในทวีปเอเซีย ตั้งแต่อินเดีย ศรีลังกา พม่า ไทย อินโดนีเซีย จนถึงฟิลิปปินส์ แวนด้าได้รับการปรับปรุงสายพันธุ์ขึ้นอีกหลายพันธุ์
